Logging a habit takes seconds
The whole design is built around one idea: recording a moment should be fast enough that you keep doing it. Everything else is optional context that gradually builds a picture of your behaviour.
1. Tap to log a moment
Open the app and tap the prominent plus button. The current local date and time is recorded automatically, so an entry takes seconds. You can also log a craving you resisted.
2. Add what you were doing
Pick an activity from large tappable chips (Working, Driving, After eating and more) or add your own. It is optional, so skip it if you don't want to log one.
3. Add where you were
Pick a location the same way (Home, Office, Car, Outside and more) or add your own. No GPS or location permissions are used. Locations are chosen manually.
4. Add how you felt (optional)
Optionally pick a mood such as Stressed, Relaxed, Anxious or Habit/Automatic. Mood logging can be turned off entirely in settings if you don't want it.
5. See the patterns
Your dashboard turns entries into daily counts, a time-of-day distribution, ranked activities and locations, mood patterns and the combinations that recur most.
6. Keep your data
Export to CSV or a full JSON backup, import a backup to restore, or print a factual summary report. Your records sync to your account and stay across devices.
What the dashboard shows
From your recorded entries, Habit Trace calculates:
- Daily cigarette or habit counts over the last 7, 14 or 30 days.
- Entries by hour of day, from midnight to late evening, to find when you act most.
- Ranked activities and locations with both totals and percentages.
- Mood patterns, showing which feelings show up most alongside your habits.
- The most frequent activity-and-location combinations, such as Working plus Office.
- Automatically generated, factual insights based only on what you recorded.
Insights are associations, not causes
The insights Habit Trace generates describe associations in your recorded data, not proof that a particular activity causes a habit. For example, it might note that most of your recorded entries happen between 9am and 11am, or that an activity is your most frequently logged one. Those are observations about your data, not medical conclusions.
Insights only appear when there is enough data to support them. Habit Trace does not invent patterns.
History, search and filters
Every entry is kept in a searchable, filterable register grouped by date. You can edit any entry, delete an incorrect one with confirmation, and add a missed entry with a previous date and time. Filter by date range, activity or location to narrow in on a part of your behaviour.
